A catfish broke the surface of the pond yesterday. He swam on his side, up and down, in and out of the water like a sinking man bobbing for air from the depths. An apt description. The fish was drowning.

Recently, I lost someone I love very much. My boyfriend Jacob, at only 38 years old, died on October the 2nd of this year, after a brief battle with severe cirrhosis of the liver. A heavy drinker most of his life, he was diagnosed just a month before.
