Dead Fish

A catfish broke the surface of the pond yesterday. He swam on his side, up and down, in and out of the water like a sinking man bobbing for air from the depths. An apt description. The fish was drowning.

Nest Building

Feathered flier - His labor builds A nest of twigs and fluff. Seems to me The fragile home Should be made Of sterner stuff. With nature's game Of pelting rain, Hot sun and windy day, How can it shelter Three new lives Now nestled there to lay? Now - our eyes deceived! Home not ju …

The Storyteller

Come and rest your bones a spell And hear the tales that I can tell. Of long dirt roads and dusty trails, Cottonwoods and cotton tails. Of a first kiss stolen late one night, Camping trips and sweet starlight. Bonfires and fireflies, Bold floods and stormy skies. Piling in to go  …

Making Everything More Ducky - the Hatching of a Plan

I've watched the development of a lake in my parent's neighborhood over the last year or so. It's been an interesting process. It started as a peaceful, lightly wooded field. Then one day, in came the tree cutters and bulldozers and took all the trees and brush out.

A Mother's Love

A Mother's love is pure Like a spring from 'neath the Earth. A Mother's love is powerful. It begins before one's birth When you are just a small heartbeat, A movement deep inside. Her love will keep you warm and close - A place where you can hide. For all the days you grow and pl …

Oh where, oh where...

I wish that I was different. I mean, most of the time I like who I am, but sometimes I wish I could change things about me. Like, I wish that I didn't love so hard, or so fast... This might seem a strange thing to say but the truth is that love makes me crazy.

Please excuse the mess...

Have you ever visited an office building or store where they were doing renovations or repairs? You are cruising right along going where you need to go and then, oops there it is. Bright yellow shiny tape declaring "do not cross" in bold black lettering.

Wondering

Throw your wishes to the skies And catch a falling star. I wonder what you're doing And I wonder where you are. I wonder on the sunny days And I wonder on the gray. I wonder if you think of me, And if I saw you what you'd say. I wonder if you're happy. I wonder if you're blue. An …

Hidden

I see what's hidden in the dark Because I see it with my heart Lost amid the shadows bleak A soul that wrestles, sometimes weak It does not see, it cannot tell The blessings that I see so well I see what's hidden in the dark Because I see it with my heart

Nest of Thorns

Once I thought that I knew love, But my heart did only slumber. I followed it in dreaming once Into nest of thorns did blunder. They scored my soul, damaged my faith, My tender heart did rend. The one who dangerous garden tended Then left with few amends. Family gathered round me …

Saying Goodbye

Though my heart oft dwell in shadow, My feet searched for the way That led out of the darkness And sent me to the day. Sometimes I saw a glimmer Or felt a touch so warm, But peace it fled like frightened stag Chased by the hunter's horn.

Make a Difference

This world where we do make our home Can be a hostile space. Killer's kill, People spread ill-will, Grief reflected in many a face. This world where we do make our home Can be full of much distress. Diseases, infection, Poverty, rejection, Our world seems such a mess.

The Battle

My heart once tired of struggle, And of finding injury. So to guard it and protect it And with hope of a reprieve, I built a wall about it And I made it tall and stout. I thought a guarantee to keep The suffering without. And then I labored long To build a trench so deep - I dug  …
